It’s nearly that time of year again. Gibraltar National Day 2026 is just around the corner, and on Thursday 10 September the Rock will once again turn red and white for a full day of music, entertainment, family fun and celebrations.
Whether you’re planning to spend the day in Casemates, wandering through town, catching some live music, heading to one of the afternoon events or finding the perfect spot to watch the evening spectacular, there is plenty going on.
And the celebrations start well before the big day itself.
For music lovers, the build-up to National Day is looking particularly exciting this year.
The Gibraltar Music Festival: Summer Sessions returns to the Europa Sports Arena from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 September, giving Gibraltar three nights of live music in the run-up to National Day. The line-up includes some seriously big names, including James Morrison, Hard-Fi, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Tony Hadley, Billy Ocean, 10cc, Rosario and The Real Thing, alongside local performers.

So if you want to make a proper week of it, the music starts a full week before National Day itself.
National Day itself gets underway from 9:30am, with live music appearing at various locations around Main Street.
The first big event on the programme is the Children’s Fancy Dress Competition, taking place at Casemates Square at 10am. It’s always one of the most colourful parts of the day, and children are encouraged to get creative with their costumes while embracing the red-and-white theme.
Gibraltar Cultural Services has published information about the competition, including the arrangements for participating children.

Following the competition, live performances continue at Casemates Square from 10:30am, keeping the music going as the crowds begin to gather.
At 12:25pm, attention turns to the political rally at Casemates Square.
For those who want to follow the political side of National Day, this is one of the key moments of the programme. It sits alongside the entertainment and community celebrations that take place throughout the day.
But you certainly don't have to spend the whole day in Casemates. There are plenty of other things happening around town.
From 1:30pm, Casemates Square will continue with entertainment from No Limits Entertainment, while John Mackintosh Square will host Fun Day attractions from 1:30pm until 7pm.
That makes the afternoon a particularly good time for families to get out and enjoy the celebrations.
If live music is more your thing, there are several options.
At Victoria Stadium, Wild Rock will run from 2pm until 10pm, while over at Governor’s Parade, the jazz band featuring Chipi’s and Eric & Joe will perform from 2:30pm until 7:30pm.
In other words, there is no shortage of places to hear music - and plenty of opportunities to wander around and soak up the atmosphere.
The full timetable is available online, so it is worth checking before heading out and deciding which events you want to catch.

As the sun goes down, National Day really gets into its evening stride.
The National Day Rock Concert at Casemates Square starts at 9:15pmand continues until midnight, making it one of the main evening attractions.
Then, at 10pm, eyes will turn towards the Bay.
This year's programme features a Fireworks & Drones Display over the Bay of Gibraltar, promising what should be one of the most spectacular moments of the entire day.
According to Gibraltar Cultural Services, the display will feature 500 synchronised drones, alongside the fireworks. The display is being organised by the Self Determination for Gibraltar Group (SDGG) in collaboration with Gibraltar Cultural Services.
