An historically forgotten corner of Gibraltar, the North District is fast becoming the new place to live, work and play in Gibraltar.  Gone are the industrial parks and warehousing and in it’s place new hotels, restaurants and apartments are springing up.

Read below for our essential guide to the North District.

Eastern Beach – Eastern Beach is the largest sandy beach in Gibraltar, stretching for several hundred metres along the Eastside of the isthmus separating Gibraltar from Spain. Out of the three designated beaches on the eastside, Eastern Beach receives the most hours of sunshine. There are bars and food available in the summer and you can even bring your pooch as the Dog Park is located here

Rock Escape Rooms – Are you looking for a more thrilling activity?  Look no further than Rock Escape Rooms on Cemetary Road.  There are different experiences ranging from a prison break to a zombie apocalypse and you can go with up to 6 friends making it a great day out.

La Parilla - An innovative concept from Chef Himanshu, at The La Parrilla branch of Forbes combines the flavors of India and China to create a breakthrough restaurant experience that encompasses both authentic dishes and inspired new favorites with sublime coffee at its forefront.

Spain Frontier – North District is, of course, the closest part of Gibraltar to the frontier, so make the most of it!  You can walk into La Linea for a coffee from here, or take the car to see the many sights of Andalucia.

Nunos at the Express – The second restuarnt to make our list, Nunos opened in September 2018 and is located next to the entrance of the Holiday Inn. The restaurant serves both quality interpretations of classic dishes (pizza, pasta and deli) and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of Italian cuisine.  All their pasta is handmade every day. No Italian experience is complete without traditional wines and cocktails, and desserts, like their much-loved Tiramisu alla Fragola!

Physique Gym – If you’ve overindulged in Nunos then visit Physique Gym to burn it off.  Physique Gym are taking working out and fitness to a whole new level never seen in Gibraltar with inspirational facilities from the moment you walk in.  They cater for all ages and fitness levels with support from day, nutritional advice and tailored workouts designed for your personal fitness goals.

Great Seige Tunnels – ok, so technically you would have to walk up through town to get here, but the Great Seige Tunnels eventually lead to ‘The Notch’ jutting from the Rock’s North Face, giving fantastic views over North District towards Spain.

Property – Property in North District is relatively affordable for Gibraltar and appeals to First Time Buyers and landlords alike.  Property here is a mix of 1950s/1960s built blocks or very new builds along Devil’s Tower Road.  Check out this great starter home in Forbes 1848 offered for sale by Richardsons for just £400,000
